Guided Dutch speaking practice

Guided practice turns a broad goal such as speak more Dutch into one controlled loop. Choose a prompt, plan message functions, finish a first attempt, diagnose one important weakness and repeat with one change.

Original lesson boundary: this page uses an independently written dialogue and phrase set. It is supplementary speaking practice, not an official exam task and not a copy of another course.

Build the interaction, not a memorized speech

Use a timer that matches the task but do not treat invented website timing as official exam timing. Preparation should create a route through the answer, not a written transcript.

After the first attempt, inspect meaning before surface form. Could a listener identify the situation, key detail and desired response? Select one repair, then make a second attempt while the content is still familiar.

Six Dutch phrases with a clear function

01

De situatie is als volgt…

The situation is as follows…

02

Mijn antwoord is…

My answer is…

03

Dit is belangrijk, omdat…

This is important because…

04

Een detail dat ik moet noemen is…

One detail I must mention is…

05

Mijn concrete verzoek is…

My concrete request is…

06

In mijn tweede poging verbeter ik…

In my second attempt I improve…

Read each Dutch phrase once, cover the English meaning and adapt one detail. Then combine two phrases inside a complete turn so the listener hears both purpose and relevant information.

Original dialogue model

  1. Speaker A: Je moet een afspraak met een docent verplaatsen. Wat zeg je?
  2. Speaker B: Goedemiddag, ik wil mijn afspraak van dinsdag verplaatsen.
  3. Speaker A: Waarom en welke optie bied je?
  4. Speaker B: Ik moet werken. Donderdag na drie uur kan ik wel.
  5. Speaker A: Wat controleer je na de opname?
  6. Speaker B: Of reden, alternatief en vraag allemaal duidelijk zijn.

Do not memorize the dialogue. Mark what each turn does—open, clarify, react, propose or confirm—then replace the setting and details while preserving those functions.

Adapt the same skill from A2 to B2

A2

finish a short message with situation, reason and request.

B1

add consequence, alternative and coherent connectors.

B2

weigh constraints, prioritize evidence and adapt after an extra question.

Four mistakes that weaken this interaction

  • Changing prompt, method and correction target in every round.
  • Stopping the first attempt whenever a word is imperfect.
  • Selecting a cosmetic correction while the request is missing.
  • Calling website timers official without checking the current exam source.

Four recording drills

  1. Round 1: Complete one prompt using three preparation keywords.
  2. Round 2: Listen once and write only the first important breakdown.
  3. Round 3: Repeat with one change and compare the exact segment.
  4. Round 4: Track five sessions by task, diagnosis, change and observed result.

The public browser trainer supplies original prompts and adjustable timers but does not record or upload audio. Use the iPhone app, a local recorder or a trusted teacher workflow when you want to review an actual recording.

  • The listener can identify my purpose within two sentences.
  • I include the detail needed for a useful response.
  • I react to the previous turn instead of delivering an unrelated script.
  • My final turn requests, confirms or closes something clearly.
  • I repeat once after naming one specific improvement.

Frequently asked questions

Should I memorize all six phrases?

No. Learn what each phrase does, then change the person, time, place, reason or requested action. Flexible retrieval matters more than reproducing this page.

Can I use this for an exam?

You can use the speaking method as supplementary practice. For current format, timing, scoring and official examples, use the responsible official exam organization.

Does the web page record my voice?

No. The public page displays material only. Use a local recorder, the iPhone app or a teacher workflow if you want to review audio.
